Growing up I heard a million times the saying “destiny delayed is not destiny differed”. With the corona virus this year a lot of people had their destiny delayed and trust me I can relate. A rising football star, Yamikani Chaima, who was given an opportunity to pursue his dreams as a professional footballer in Spain also shared in the experiences of many others as he could not travel due to the pandemic restrictions.
If you are into football and follow current affairs, the name should ring a bell as he was introduced in the limelight sometime last year. While attending high school in South Africa, following his dream and his love of football by being active in different tournaments, Yamikani landed a week long experience of a professional football environment at an academy that side. While at it he applied for a place at the academy where he is now headed to.
“Football is something I have always wanted to do, said Chaima
“Going to the academy helped me see what it’s like to be in a professional environment.” He added.
“Every player wants to play professional football, this is actually a realization of a dream for me.”
Chaima emphasized that this Isa great opportunity as it will help him develop and prove that Malawian players can also compete at higher levels in as far as football is concerned. Chaima will be at Alexander academy in Valencia, Spain for 8 months plus depending on how training and trials will go.
He will be given an opportunity to play for teams and in one of the biggest leagues in the world, La Liga.
Is there something about the name Yamikani or there is something about the person that is given that name? This young lad could be another Yamikani Fodya in the making.
If we all needed motivation to go after what we want this year, I don’t know what more we need to hear that can motivate all of us other than Yamikani’s grit and hard work. Just like Yamikani, take a step for that 1000 mile journey and be patient on your way because a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Go forth and conquer. Happy New Year!
